Whenever I see black and grey striped clothing, or people wearing combinations of black and grey, I’m reminded of the Worst Witch series of children’s books by Jill Murphy. (There was also a TV series which I watched every Sunday because I was then at Uni and henceforth had plenty of time in which to watch programs aimed at people much younger than myself.) The uniform at Cackle’s Academy is entirely black and grey, with black and grey striped scarves and socks, and when I was a child I thought it looked rather wonderful. (Could this have been the beginning of my boarding school obsession?)
So when I happened across a black and grey striped jumper in Target today, I had to buy it. So fluffy and stripy - it was irresistible. Thankfully, it was heavily reduced, which made the prospect of buying a piece of clothing purely because it reminded me of a series of children’s books less crazy. Just a little, anyway.

Not being a regular TV watcher I can never remember to tune in for favorites. But I did catch several episodes of ‘Worst Witch’ here and there and thought them delightful. I think clothing that gives us a secret giggle is the BEST reason to buy clothes. A Worst Witch sweater is a G-rated version of naughty underwear beneath your lawyer suit.
Having grown up here where there’s the standard 4 seasons I am amazed when I meet folks who’ve never seen snow. Of course it makes sense if you’ve always lived somewhere warm. Hope you two have a great snowy holiday! ~LA

As I generally find naughty underwear uncomfortable rather than thrilling, I’m happy to go for the Worst Witch jumper version
And thanks - I do hope we’ll happen upon some snow. In any case, the very cold weather will be an enjoyable novelty!
