Recent explorations in the blogging world

I like doing these blogs-I’ve-been-reading posts occasionally, because I’m always stumbling across really fabulous blogs that I want to share with people. All the blogs below are ones I’ve come across in the last few months, and they’ve caused me to alternately laugh, cry and gape in wonder, wishing that I could write like that.

The Happy Feminist applies feminist thought to her own life in a really engaging way, which appeals to someone like me who finds abstract feminist thought a little difficult to contend with. She writes here about her changing thoughts on materialism, and has two really fascinating posts about feminism and marriage.

Bloglily’s entry about her sons growing up without a TV reminded me of my own childhood - especially the obsession with computer games.

I’m always seeking out blogs by young women lawyers, and Lawyerish fits the bill. I wish I had such a great story about why I became a lawyer. Her entry on perfectionism gives me an insight into a mindset very different from my own, and her account of buying her first bra is alternately funny and filled with pathos.

Charlotte’s Web lives in Germany, and oh, what a fascinating place it is. She has heaps of wonderful posts about German culture, and a rather sad one about her young daughter realising that she’ll never be able to fly.

Milk Isn’t For Everyone is another blogger with a law degree - her entries are long, detailed, and utterly absorbing. I find it too difficult to encapsulate her writing - try reading this entry, or this one.

A Was Alarmed, an Australian blogger, writes about her young son’s language development, and his medical progress since his difficult birth - although she recently had some really wonderful news in that area.

And finally, for a completely heart-wrenching read, She Just Walks Around With It has written an account of her divorce - it’s long, fascinating, depressing and wonderfully written.

  • Thank you very much for posting the links - I’ve been looking for some new blogs to read and you’ve got perfect timing! :)

  • Hope you enjoy them Dana - they’re all excellent blogs and all very different as well, so there should be something for everyone :-)

  • When you wrote about our recent news about Kiko, it suddenly came home to me that yes, the news really is wonderful! I felt like crying but in a happy way. I’m so used to hearing doom and gloom about him, I’m having to adjust to this new positive mindset.

  • Cee, thanks for visiting my blog today and for jumping right in with your comment. I love your space here and I am excited about learning more about you.

  • But what a lovely adjustment to have to make, Helen! I look forward to hearing more happy news of Kiko.

Thanks Fringes :-) Due to filling in my working hours reading blogs, and obsessively updating my RSS reader, I’ve been a terribly good commenter recently!
